A vehicle is only eligible for an unregistered vehicle permit if it meets all requirements to be registered for road use. The vehicle must have a compliance plate or an entry on the Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV).
Operators of heavy vehicles that exceed mass or dimension limits are not eligible to apply for an unregistered vehicle permit online, unless the vehicle is operating under a relevant notice. However, the operator may be eligible to apply in person with a copy of a permit issued by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR). The NHVR provides alternative pathways for non-road-registerable heavy vehicles via notices or permits.
To apply for a permit online, you must have: A Queensland driver licence or customer reference number (CRN), issued by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
