Overseas licence holders—please do not continue
If you get a Queensland learner licence:
- you won't be able to continue driving on your overseas licence
- you'll need to follow the learner licence rules
(you won't be able to drive without a supervisor)
- you'll need to do an additional test

You can use this service if you:
- are at least 16 years old
- have passed PrepL
- have had your photo taken by us, in the last 12 months.
- have shown your identity documents at a customer service centre
- live in Queensland
AND if you:
- are not a returning driver
- are not transferring your licence from interstate or overseas
Note: If you have held a Queensland learner licence before and it expired 5 or more years ago, you'll need to visit a customer service centre to apply for your new learner licence.
Note: If you have a medical condition that may affect your ability to drive safely, you'll need to have a medical certificate recorded with us before you can get your learner licence.

You'll need to visit a customer service centre to apply for your learner licence.
You'll need to pay the fee for your learner licence.
What do I need to bring?
If you don't bring the correct documents, we won't be able to issue your licence and you'll need to visit the customer service centre again.
Bring: At least 3 original identity documents

Category A and B document examples:
- Full original Australian birth certificate
(Note: Commemorative birth certificates and extracts cannot be accepted)
- Passport
- Medicare card
- Bank card
If you have changed your name, or the details of your name are different on your identification documents, you must show evidence of your name change.
Bring: Proof of address
A document that shows your Queensland residential address
If you are transferring an interstate or overseas licence, you also need to bring your driver licence.
If your overseas licence is not in English, you must also bring a recognised translation from the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI).
If you have a medical condition that is likely to affect your ability to drive safely, you must bring a current medical certificate with you when you apply for your Queensland licence. Find out more.
All documents must be originals – photocopies and certified copies are not acceptable.
